WHY ROOTED IN REST

For generations, women have been conditioned to function in a world built on systems that ignored the intelligence of the body.

With the rise of the Industrial Revolution, human value became equated with output.

Productivity, efficiency, and linear progress were prioritized
—qualities modeled after machines.

As society industrialized, so did our internal rhythms.

We began to ignore signals like tiredness, hunger, exhaustion, and overstimulation,

replacing them with stimulants, discipline, hustle, achievement, striving, and overdrive.

During World War II, women were called into the workforce.

This marked a cultural shift—women felt like they needed to prove they could do it all
(this pressure to be the perfect mother, partner, worker, friend..etc)

Overlay this with centuries of patriarchal influence

—which values logic over intuition, doing over being, performance over presence and truth

and it becomes clear why us women - our mother, grandmothers, great grandmothers -
feel burnt out, disconnected, and dysregulated.

Our female biology was never meant to work like men or machines.

Women are cyclical beings.

We operate on rhythms—monthly hormonal cycles that affect our mood, energy, cognition, and sleep.

We pass through powerful life stages—menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, menopause—that require different types of care, nourishment, and pacing.

When we try to override these natural cycles that require REST,

we pay the price of anxiety, insomnia, burnout, autoimmune issues,
and a loss of connection to our bodies.

This journey is about remembering that rest is not indulgent

—it's biological.

That the signals your body sends you are not inconveniences

—they're information.

And that true health and empowerment come from aligning with your body’s innate intelligence

— not overriding it.

THE 8-WEEK ROOTED IN REST JOURNEY

Week 1

A deep rest journey with reflection questions and group discussion to
receive clarity, purpose, and alignment in your life.

Week 2

Learn what is true rest by discovering the science of rest. The stages and benefits of rest. Build a healthy and positive relationship with rest and sleep. Receive your rest tool box with simple rest practices that take little time and effort.

Week 3

Develop nervous system literacy skills and discover it’s intimate relationship to rest and sleep. Learn how to regulate and rewire your nervous system to break the cycle of survival and stress patterns (e.g. striving, over-working, perfectionism, over-giving, control, reacting, rushing, guilt with rest, hustling, people pleasing, and pushing)

Week 4

Learn the unique language of YOUR body and nervous system. Discern your authentic Yes and Nos. Discover how to work with your triggers and emotions in a healthy way and establish stronger boundaries.

Week 5

Energetic Management. Learn how to master your energy to receive the vitality you are craving.
Receive energy from rest and detox from external stimulation.

Week 6

Synch your life with the innate cycles and rhythms of nature and your body. Learn circadian rhythm synching to promote better quality daytime rest and night-time sleep for the female biology.
Develop morning and evening ritual to help anchor these rhythms. Discover how we can receive better rest during pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood and beyond.

Week 7

Explore your relationship with Receiving and Support.
Establish a strong support network in your home, work, and family life.

Week 8

Closing and celebration call with soma-yoga,
which is a blend of somatic + yoga to release, rest, and come back home to YOU.

Dr. Diana Liu

Dr. Diana Liu has spent over the last decade in the exploration of holistic health and spiritual well-being.

She is also a general dentist with a focus on dental sleep medicine (supporting kids and adults with sleep apnea) on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia. Her long path in academia pursuing a Bachelors in Biochemistry and a Masters of Business, followed by climbing the corporate ladder as a Financial Analyst, led her down a path of burnout, chronic anxiety, and insomnia.

Yoga, Non-Sleep Deep Rest Meditation (e.g. Yoga Nidra) and optimizing Sleep and Rest have played pivotal roles in her personal healing journey. As a 200-hour certified Yoga and Meditation Teacher and CBT-i trained Sleep Coach, she is passionate about sharing and supporting others on their healing journey to revive health and sleep, take control of their nervous system, and live a grounded and connected life. One of her deepest joys is to connect like-hearted and minded people together in transformative and meaningful ways!

Jenn Field

Jenn Field offers grounded, practical wisdom to support conscious awareness, authentic connection, and balanced living.

With an extensive background serving underprivileged, aged and disabled people through her 16 years of Social work, Jenn has devoted even more time studying and practicing alternative and holistic healing modalities, both locally and Internationally.   

With personal triumph and professional experience in complex trauma, Jenn shares Nervous System stabilization, and ongoing personal empowerment, through Conscious Connected Bodywork and Breathwork.

With a foundation in Self Inquiry, and radical honesty, Jenn offers in-depth support through her popular Personal Sessions and Community Breathwork Journeys   After years of experience hosting and facilitating retreats, she loves working with Private Groups and serving Professionals in achieving greater vitality, and long term sustainability.

Together with her husband, they own and operate “Halfmoon Haven Beachfront Retreat and Spa”, on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, Canada.   Over the last two decades, it has become known as a special oasis, inspiring positive transformation and healing.

Guest Teacher: Julie Plotkin

Julie’s passion is helping people find a deeper connection with themselves and their bodies, as well as within community.

One of Julie’s greatest joys and gifts is her ability to help people find more freedom in their bodies, more easeful movements, and release of tension and stress.

Julie has been interested in personal growth and the healing arts for over two decades. After completing a B.A. in Philosophy, she became fascinated with movement and the healing arts. She was fuelled by a desire to find pathways that led to deep transformational healing in the body-heart-mind.

About 5Rhythms®:

This desire led her to the 5Rhythms® Dancing Path, and she has been teaching since 2014. The 5Rhythms® is a conscious dance practice, a moving meditation, and a spiritual path. There are no steps or choreography to learn; the invitation is to be willing to authentically and creatively express how you are feeling in each moment, allowing movement to come organically and effortlessly from the body.

Students often experience feelings of release, openness and connection during and after a class. A 5Rhythms® session can be a deeply spiritual, transformational, healing experience. 

Previous dance experience is not needed to participate in a 5Rhythms® class. It is available to any body, any size, any gender or sexual orientation, any ability, and any age.
